SHARP FOREST - TISHOMINGO COUNTY, 1600 ACRES
Jack, Mollie, and Kate Sharp of Tishomingo County donated a 1600-acre tract of timber to Mississippi State University, "to assure proper management of the timber stand and to serve as a laboratory for students." Miss Kate Sharp said that it has always been her family's desire to see their timber stands properly managed and supervised. " After long consideration of the matter," she said "we arrived at the conclusion that the timber could be managed for the benefit of young men and women interested in forestry, by placing the land under the control of the School of Forestry at Mississippi State."
The Sharp forest has provided over $900,000 in student scholarships and professorships since the 1970’s.
