For several years, Nathan Moore has played a vital role with student recruitment and enrollment at Mississippi State. Now, he's on the other side of the equation – assisting graduates of the university.
In his new role, Nathan raises funds for the university and assists with alumni activities, specifically for MSU's College of Architecture, Art and Design. He joined the college in July and began guiding fundraising efforts for the academic unit that includes the School of Architecture and its Carl Small Town Center; the department of art; and the interior design academic program.
Nathan becomes part of the development team from MSU's Division of Student Affairs, where he has worked for the past five years. After serving as an admissions counselor, he was most recently assistant director of the admissions and scholarships office. A 2002 MSU political science graduate, Nathan volunteered as a Roadrunner in the Office of Admissions and Scholarships during his time as a student.
"I'm honored to have been able to help advance Mississippi State through student recruitment," Nathan said. "Now, working with the MSU Foundation will provide an exciting new experience that enables me to continue improving the institution that I love."
A deep affection for Mississippi State definitely runs in the Moore family. Nathan's dad is a longtime MSU faculty member, Dr. Elton Moore, the associate dean of education.
"My dad received a doctorate degree from the university and certainly influenced my connection with the institution," Nathan shares.
Nathan, who is currently pursuing a master's degree in public policy and administration, is just glad to be a part of the ‘People's University.'
"There's no pretense here. Mississippi State will forever be a place where administration and faculty have a long and productive association," Nathan says. "The university has a unique way of connecting with people in real ways, while performing useful research and service functions as well."
Visiting with alumni and friends and using the knowledge he acquired through his admissions positions are certainly aiding in his effort as a fundraiser.
"It's interesting as an MSU fundraiser to travel and see those former students in their surroundings as successful alumni, and I feel like I'm able to help them understand how their support can make a difference at Mississippi State," he adds.
